Naming A Business

Naming a business

Jenna Jackson wrote an article over at Squadhelp titled, “How To Create The Perfect Name For Your Company”

I was reading that article today on the heels of a couple forum posts of those who have given up on domaining. I also received a phone call where someone conveyed to me they don’t know what makes a good name, except for the obvious, Sex, Blue, Games, etc…

Jenna wrote that article for businesses but I think domain investors, especially new ones can benefit by reading articles like this.

Jenna makes a good point that a business needs to think about their customer. As a domain investor you need to think two levels deep to set yourself apart.

You look at the business as your customer, but if you think ahead to the buyer’s customer, you can craft better names.

When selling premium one word .coms you don not need to think this way. The demand is there and they become more scarce every month.

But 90% of domain investors don’t own those names and never will. So you need to think how to set yourself up for success with two or three word .coms, made up pronounceables, etc… The demand for naming services has gone up since Covid.

Jenna pointed out keep an eye on:

  • Your immediate environment and who your customers are.
  • The emotion(s) you want to stir in your customers.
  • The names of your competitors.

Think two steps ahead it might very well pay off.
