Hey, you! Listen to the ICANN board webcast more private sessions

DomainIncite DomainIncite: ICANN’s board of directors is to live stream two sessions during an upcoming retreat, and if you’re at all interested in ICANN you really ought to tune in. The webcasts are part of an ongoing pilot program designed to increase transparency at the very top of ICANN’s policy-making reverse-hierarchy. The public, listen-only sessions seem to […]

It’s official, Rick Schwartz is having more fun tweeting than blogging

Morgan Linton Morgan Linton: Rick Schwartz, aka the Domain King wrote one of the most-read blogs in the domain name industry, aptly named “Rick’s Blog” and also not surprisingly located at RicksBlog.com. Throughout his career Rick has had more blockbuster domain sales than you can count on your fingers and toes. One that really made waves was in early […]

A Simple Request to Beer Producers (Get a .BEER Domain)

I Want My Name I Want My Name: As a good millennial does, I was sitting by the pool over the weekend drinking a Modern Times beer (which was delicious, I should add). And because I’m generationally bound to search for everything online, I decided to check out what other beers they had available.
DuckDuckGo’ing “modern times” seemed like a waste of effort – all the clicking and scrolling didn’t seem pool-appropriate. So I went for it and typed in moderntimes.com, as you do, and got some random landing page with links to posts about old Hollywood. Next, I typed in moderntimes.beer and found a domain parking page. I wasn’t about to guess a third time, so I angrily DuckDuckGo’d it and found the site to be moderntimesbeer.com. Gross (not really that gross… I’m being dramatic).
My simple request to all beer producers – get a .beer domain and pair it with the shortest form of your brand name. Shiner.beer, AZWilderness.beer, and Stone.beer should just work (they should at least redirect to the main domain).
Pre-post, post-pool update: I did a quick WHOIS lookup on moderntimes.beer and found that it is indeed owned by someone at Modern Times. So Modern Times, if you happen to read this, please set up a redirect. 🙏

Domain offers are binding, but contact form abuse is rampant

acro.net acro.net: I believe it’s about time to add some legalese to domain name offer forms, such as those at the Uniregistry Market that I use primarily. Offers attached to domain inquiries are binding, and yet there is rampant abuse. When a domain contact form includes a minimum asking price, filling out that form with a number […]

Domain Name Wire Domain Name Wire: Deep insight into the past and present of the new TLD business. Minds + Machines Group Limited, aka MMX, released its final results for 2016 today. Create Your Own Affiliate Network With Tapfiliate

I Want My Name I Want My Name: Back in my college days I spent most of my work hours peddling computers at the Apple Store. And if I learned one thing from the experience, it’s that word-of-mouth marketing is an invaluable resource (some people have a real knack for converting their friends and coworkers). Having a great product to sell will always be most important, but if you can get people to turn their networks into converts, you’re clearly doing something right.
For brands that aren’t mid-2000’s-era Apple though, getting that word-of-mouth marketing can be a slow process – cult-like followings don’t just happen overnight. But with the right incentives in place, you can often turn casual fans into real brand evangelists.
Enter Tapfiliate, a plug-and-play affiliate marketing tool that lets you create a commission structure for just about anything. You can pay people to drive sales, newsletter sign-ups, monthly subscriptions – you name it. And you can even create your own multi-level marketing tree (the app does all the tracking and reporting for you), incentivizing affiliates to bring sub-affiliates into the fold. It’s fast, easy, and the marketing boost you’ll get will basically pay for the reasonable monthly fee.
If you want to brand your new Tapfiliate affiliate system with a custom domain (you know you do!), just head over to our plugins page and get started.

Missteps Of A Rebrand: CSG Companies to Forte Benefits

dotWeekly dotWeekly: CSG Companies is rebranding but IMO they did a very poor job of it if they wish to do business “online” and present a clear branding message for the company and it’s new brand. The new business name is Forte Benefits and the tagline “Forward Thinking Benefits”.

Everything looks pretty good so far!
Now, Forte is a great brand name with a powerful meaning (a thing at which something excels) but in branding, it’s important to be constant with who … Read the rest
