Afternic launches “bring your own sale” links that work with long term payments

Service leverages Dan.com checkout and Afternic’s transfer/payment service.

Afternic checkout link for selling domains off platform
Afternic now offers checkout links for selling domains directly.

Afternic has launched “custom checkout links” that allow domain sellers to use Afternic’s transfer service for sales completed elsewhere.

This is similar to Dan’s “bring your own lead” and, in fact, uses Dan’s checkout page.

The service allows people who have domains listed on Afternic to use Dan’s payment service and Afternic’s transfer flow when they negotiate transactions outside of the platform.

For example, you have a domain listed for sale on Afternic for $5,000. You do outbound or otherwise communicate with a buyer who wants to buy the domain. Rather than changing the price on Afternic and asking them to buy the domain through the lander, you send them a custom checkout link.

The upside: lower commissions.

Buy now sales carry only a 5% commission (minimum $15). The service will also allow you to sell domains on lease-to-own for up to 12 months with a 10% commission.

The minimum buy now transaction is $99, and lease-to-own transactions must be between $495-$100,000.

The downside, for now, is that buyers will be sent to a Dan.com branded checkout rather than GoDaddy.

I used Dan’s “bring your own lead” service a few times when negotiating sales elsewhere.

This service will be beneficial to people who capture leads outside of the Afternic/Dan ecosystem, as well as people who send outbound emails to get sales.

From a competitive standpoint, this service is likely to impact Escrow.com, especially for lower-priced sales.
