GoDaddy (NYSE: GDDY) and Afternic are starting two initiatives this week that domain investors should pay attention to.

First, starting today, the company is auctioning off many domains from its owned-and-operated NameFind portfolio.

The company is adding over 60 domains to auctions from 9:30-11 am PST, and then will add new domains each weekday through at least December 14. Auctions will run for seven days and have no reserve, although auctions will start at various prices.

For example, bidding on cliche.com starts at $6,499 and lung.com at $19,999.

The timing suggests that GoDaddy wants to goose its aftermarket numbers before the end of the year. I suspect GoDaddy would be willing to negotiate on higher-end names that aren’t in the auctions, so if you have your eye on one, I suggest reaching out to the company.

You can see the auctions here.

The other initiative is that Afternic is adding .io and .xyz to its Fast Transfer network starting Thursday, December 7. This means buyers can purchase the domains through partners and the domains will automatically transfer to their account, usually within minutes.

Partners tend to give more exposure to names with Fast Transfer, so this could elevate sales of .io and .xyz domains.

As with all Fast Transfer domains, they need to have a buy now price of up to $100,000. They also have to be registered at a Fast Transfer-enabled domain registrar.

Customers with domains that meet these qualifications will receive instructions from their registrar to confirm their opt-in to Fast Transfer.

Other domains eligible for Fast Transfer include .com, .net, .biz, .org, .pw, .co, .de and .info.
