There are some neat metrics in this tool included with Domain Academy.
I’ve been bidding on many of the domains in GoDaddy’s NameFind auctions. One of the tools I’ve used to evaluate my bid prices is Domain Academy’s Research Snapshot.
The tool provides several valuations, including GoDaddy’s GoValue, Estibot, and Brandpa. But that’s not what I’m using it for. It’s the rich data that comes with it.
Let’s take a look at one of the domains I bid on Friday, inroads.com. It’s a nice domain, and I bid up to $7,100 on it. It sold for $7,623.
Here’s the data I reviewed on the Research Snapshot.
TLDs: See which extensions the domain is registered in. I already pay for DotDB, but I find the way Research Snapshot displays the data more user-friendly: it shows all of the top level domains the domain is registered in that are active in one list. DotDB mixes the different types (active, parked, and inactive) in one comma separated list. So to open each site, I have to skip over the non-active domains. Here’s a partial look at the list:
Startups: List of companies in Crunchbase that match the domain. This gives you a great idea of how common the domain’s keyword is used in company names. It’s a great barometer for potential demand.
For-Sale: Aggregates listings of the domain in other TLDs and how much they are listed for. This is fantastic information to get an idea of competition for selling the domain. It shows how much alternative extensions are listed for. This is even more important when the domain is not .com, because these alternatives are competition. And if you are looking at a .com, it’s helpful to see if extensions like .net are priced high.
There are some other cool metrics as well, such as the number of companies with the name in Datafiniti and the number of Github repositories with the keyword in it.
