Corporate formation business bought domain name registrar Epik.
When Epik was acquired in June of 2023, allegations in a lawsuit said that Registered Agents, Inc. was the buyer through a new entity called Epik LLC. And the asset purchase paperwork was signed by JM Spear, President of Registered Agents Inc.
Register Agents Inc. acts as the contact for companies so they don’t have to disclose their real information, kind of like how Whois privacy works. Typically, a registered agent would not sign an asset purchase agreement on behalf of a client.
But there was still an open question — did Registered Agents Inc. acquire Epik or was it someone else using Registered Agents Inc.?
According to a release on Epik’s site, the buyer was indeed Registered Agents Inc.
It makes sense. Registered Agents Inc. helps companies with formation services and even offers online identity packages. So, owning a domain registrar is complementary.
Epik’s website now lists three people associated with Registered Agents Inc. as the Epik leadership team.
It would seem that it’s case closed. But given the business that Registered Agents Inc. is in (including hiding identities), people will still have questions. Especially after the company’s bizarre behavior on social media recently.
