.Com domains will cost $10.26 plus markup beginning in September.
Verisign (NASDAQ: VRSN) today announced that it is raising the wholesale price of .com domain names on September 1, 2024.
The registry currently charges registrars $9.59 per year for .com registrations. That will increase to $10.26.
Verisign is allowed to increase prices by 7% in each of the last four years of its six-year contract renewal. This year marks the final of those four years for the current contract. So, unless the U.S. government intervenes, the price should be fixed at $10.26 for the next couple of years.
Current registrants of .com domain names can avoid the price increase by renewing their domains in advance for up to ten years at today’s prices.
Verisign announced the hike in conjunction with its 2023 earnings results. The company reported revenue of $1.49 billion for 2023. While the number of domains under management fell over the course of the year, a 7% price increase instituted in September 2023 helped nudge revenue up 4.8% year over year.
